Technical Writing

Over the past ten years I have researched, written and illustrated many documents for the companies I worked for. You can see and read about samples of my work below.

Installation Guides and Technical Briefs
I wrote and illustrated installation guides for the Cx486SRx2 Upgrade Microprocessor, Cx486DRx2 Upgrade Microprocessor, 386 to 486 Upgrade Microprocessor Technical Brief and the 6x86 Systems Reference Guide. I used FrameMaker 4.0 to construct the books and MicroGrafx Designer for the illustrations. Product Reviewers with PC Magazine liked the Upgrade Microprocessor Installation Guides so much that they made special mention in their article!

Math Coprocessor and Upgrade Microprocessor Addendums
Minor updates to the 386 to 486 Upgrade Microprocessor installation manuals were made possible by the addition of addendums. Likewise, when the package design of the 83D87 math coprocessor changed from a 168 pin PGA-style package to a surface-mounted PQFP circuit board assembly, I wrote and illustrated the addendums. These addendums were usually written in Microsoft Word. In some cases, the addendums were single sheets, in other cases the addendums were small 8 to 12 page booklets.

Software Utility Installation Instructions
The 386 to 486 Upgrade Microprocessors utilized a special software driver and cache configuration software utility. I wrote the instructions for five different operating systems — three varieties of UNIX, Windows NT and IBM's OS/2. These instruction sheets were written in Microsoft Word and converted to PDF files with Adobe Acrobat. PDF versions were placed in a downloadable area of the corporate FTP site.

6x86 PC Systems Assembly Manuals
In early 1994, Cyrix introduced a line of made-to-order personal computers based on the 6x86 Microprocessor. I wrote and illustrated the assembly instuctions for our assembly line. The instructions, written in Word, included hardware installation, motherboard jumper settings and location, system BIOS settings, and system packing instructions.

Additional Technical Documentation
While at American Pad & Paper LLC (1999-2003), I wrote configuration procedures for PTC (Personal Transaction Computer), Ampad/customer EDI procedures, a carton label creation process and a procedure for creating overlays for some of the programs on the AS400 system. These documents contain confidential information and thus are not shown here.

Prior to my work at American Pad & Paper LLC, I contracted briefly with Lucent Technologies to edit and illustrate sections of their OptiStar OC48 Users Guide.
